Financial success is something that workers of non-profit organizations do not hope to achieve. It is a type of employment that reveals a heart that desires to see people live better lives in this world. However, the story of Mariah is something that will amaze you and encourage you that when you are passionate about the things that you do, you can gain success in the end.
The story of Mariah begins when she was a young girl of 7. Mariah lived a comfortable life growing up with her brother and with parents who worked hard to give them this kind of life. They always had food on the table, clothes to wear, decent education and a house to live in. they celebrated events with gifts and nice food.
Going home from shopping, Mariah was astonished to see a poor man wearing filthy rags on the street. The sadness in his eyes was more than Mariah could take that she had to ask her mother to buy food for the man. Indeed, the man has not eaten for days and he hungrily dug into the slices of pizza that they bought for him.
The incident with the poor man affected Mariah to the core. She grew up bringing the passion of helping the poor in her heart. This led her to ask her parents to volunteer with her to work at a soup kitchen. In time, the family of Mariah began joining other programs that help the less fortunate people in their community.
Since at that time Mariah was using her parents money to give away to the poor, her parents decided to tell her that true giving comes from giving what you have and not what somebody else has. Yes, Mariah understood what her parents wanted her to realize so as early as 16 years old she took a job waiting tables at a restaurant.
Half of her earning were given to the poor and she saved the other half. With money to spend, Mariah buys toys for children during Christmastime.
It was one of her teachers who encouraged Mariah to write a blog on the things she was doing for her community so that she can inspire others to do the same. Mariah, the blogger, was then born. People started to contribute to her cause. Now, she earns six figures a year for her blog and she gives half of it to charity.
